Saggy Town Character Design Test
In the competitive world of animation, studios use character design tests to evaluate two key things: whether an artist's technical skills meet production standards, and if they can capture the unique aesthetic and sensibility of the show's style. The Saggy Town Character Design Test brings that exact experience to aspiring designers and students. This realistic simulation lets you tackle a professional-level test without the pressure of a real job on the line.

You’re 100% right. There’s an insane amount of amazing free stuff out there.
The problem isn’t the information… it’s that it’s scattered across 100+ videos, Reddit threads, Discord rants, and random PDFs.
Most students spend months (sometimes years) jumping between creators, getting overwhelmed, starting 17 different challenges, and finishing maybe 3 pieces that feel portfolio-worthy.
What my test does is curate + structure everything into one focused, industry-level brief with clear constraints, success criteria. The exact kind of thing studios actually give in job tests.
It’s not about ‘new secret knowledge’. It’s about guided application so you stop consuming and start shipping polished, directed work faster

Totally respect that. The fact that you're even thinking about making your own challenges already puts you ahead of most people who just passively watch tutorials. The thing is… almost every artist I talk to (including myself back in the day) starts with that exact plan: 'I'll create my own 30-day thing, strict deadlines, good prompts.' And then life happens: motivation dips, the prompts end up too vague/broad, you second-guess the difficulty, or you finish the sketch but never push it to polish because there's no external 'due date' pressure.
My test isn't about forcing structure on you, it's about borrowing a pre-tested, industry-caliber structure so you can skip the part where you spend weeks designing the challenge itself… and just get to the part where you actually ship strong, directed pieces.

Super fair concern — I've seen way too many 'character design packs' that are basically 50 variations of 'cool sci-fi girl with sword' or 'mysterious hooded figure.' Those feel generic because they are.
My test is built directly from real studio-level briefs that I have personally taken at studios like Nickelodeon, Bento Box and many others. That means tight constraints built around an actual production you won't find in free challenges.

Yes! This would be a great opportunity to show studios your abilities by showing them a test you have already completed.
This test will give you a beautifully branded project that will elevate any portfolio.
-
Yes! Take the work you make and use it for posts on social media.
I do ask that you credit the work and share where the test came from.
This helps me spread the word about my products to help art students and it also helps other artists find the help they might be looking for.
Thank you for sharing!

No worries at all! When you purchase the test you gain lifetime access. You can purchase it now to ensure you have the materials, then take it on your own time.

Yes! Personal feedback is not included in the $17.97 when you purchase the test, but there is an option at the end of the test to pay for this service.
If you choose to do so, you will receive a personal review and grading by Saggy Town’s creator (Caleb Staker) for $25. You will get personalized draw-over notes and a grade with feedback on how you did.
This is perfect for any and all students or recent grads that are wondering how their skills stack up to industry standards. This will help answer the question “am I ready to work professionally?”

I think you should. For only $17.98 you get see what it’s actually like on the job in terms of the kind of assignments you will get. This test creates the perfect atmosphere to help you in your process of deciding if you’d like the career path or not.
I’d say that information and experience is well worth the money and something I wish I had when I was in school.
